nostalgia is a disease (and it’s fatal)

"Sonder" by The Sumaia |
I am consumed by a terminal illness
that haunts my every move.
I am wrecked by the means of remembering
torn by the talons of the fatal forgetting.
Can you see through my deliberate lies of time?
Can you behold the soul of mine
without knowing of my past lives?
The girl with the curls,
a vague memory now,
curling around my mind like a vast souvenir.
The girl with the smile,
so violently bright,
found torture in my eyes,
and hid in the night.
Will you love me the same
if I have not changed?
Will my molding heart bring light to your life?
The devout, blood-pumping vessel in sight.
Am I yours or theirs or mine or no one's?
(may nostalgia consume you)
Will I ever see past the changing days?
(may nostalgia consume you)
I am flesh and bone and blood and disease
(may nostalgia consume you)
You may now forget
who I was, what I am, who I will be.
You may now forget
me, entirely.
